Atlanta Artist Corey Barksdale Inspired By Jazz Music
ATLANTA, GA – Corey Barksdale’s work is continually inspired by jazz. “It frees me to do what I feel when I’m painting,” Barksdale says. While painting, he often listens to jazz greats like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and John Coltrane. The result has been more than 30 paintings that celebrate the jazz experience.
“Coltrane is at the top of my list,” says Barksdale. A Coltrane recording he particularly enjoys is Africa. “Coltrane is improvisational in the piece but he has structure in his sound. I like the freedom that he has when he’s playing Africa. It’s rhythmic and free.”
Barksdale admires Miles Davis with equal measure for his rawness. “Davis was into experimenting and trying different things with his sound. He was a catalyst for other musicians and he was a pioneer in his time, all without commercializing the music.”
So what is it about jazz that inspires Barksdale’s creativity? “I love the improvisation of jazz musicians from the ‘50s and ‘60s. There was a lot of experimentation going on. In much the same way, I want to create something totally new with my paintings each time - to be different in the way I portray certain subjects.” Barksdale clearly appreciates traditional jazz artists - the Jazz Crusaders and Sonny Rollins included - but he also gets a certain amount of inspiration from legendary contemporaries like Joe Sample and David Sanborn.
One of Barksdale’s personal favorites is a painting he’s entitled Jazz Reflections. “The painting is of six guys playing various horn instruments, a bass and piano. It’s one of my favorites because it gives off the vibe of what it’s like being in a jazz club,” explains Barksdale, an Atlanta College of Art graduate. Many of Barksdale’s oil paintings are an infusion of vivid colors tinged with earthtones. His choice colors, a sky blue and a rich orange, almost like Georgia clay with a hint of brown, are used with bold strokes throughout his collection.
“Ultimately, I want individuals to feel what I felt at the time I produced a piece. And whatever the scene happens to be in a painting, I want them to look beyond that and find other things in the painting they can relate to. It’s my attempt to connect on a more personal level.”

Difference between Miles Davis and John Coltrane?
Describe the difference in playing styles between Miles Davis (Trumpet) and John Coltrane (saxophone). How are they different? How are they similar?
Quick!!!!! Need answer fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Miles and Coltrane played together for many years but then in the 60's they broke off and did their own thing. During the late 50's and early 60's both Miles and Trane were very influential "bop" players. They did the album "Kind of Blue" which is considered the most influential Jazz album of all time. It is also the top selling jazz album of all time.
Then in the mid-60's Miles started getting more into modal jazz, a term used to descibe jazz with only a few chords. Coltrane started getting into Free Jazz, or Avant-Garde, the term used to describe jazz with no real form, or no real chord changes to solo over.
Coltrane died in 1967. Both Miles and Trane had been Heroine addicts for many years. Both of them were able to quit, but I guess Trane had destroyed his body and was not able to live past the age of 40.
Miles continued playing until his death in the early 90's. He was very influential in "Fusion" jazz, or basically the term used to define the introduction of electric instruments into Jazz music. This was during the 70's and 80's.
Both Trane and Miles were extremely influential jazz musicians. In fact, there have not been any jazz musicians since Trane and Miles who have contributed as much as they have to the current state of modern jazz music. But their contributions were very different from each other.
To truly understand what they have contributed to music, you must listen to their recordings!

Where do you put your right hand palm while playing guitar?
I'm becoming a little self conscious about proper guitar form. Where does the right hand palm go when you're picking ( but not palm muting) I put mine resting on the 5th and 6th strings and was wondering if that's acceptable
yeah, i think that's fine. don't be too conscious about it, and just play what feels most comfortable. in a while, you will get used to playing naturally. good luck!

--Tony Roma's Baked Potato Soup--
2 medium potatoes (about 2 cups chopped)
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup diced white onion
2 tablespoons flour
4 cups chicken stock

1 1/2 cups instant mashed potatoes
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon pepper

1/4 cup crumbled cooked bacon

Spoon about 1 1/2 cups of soup into a bowl and top with about a tablespoon of shredded cheddar cheese, a half tablespoon of crumbled bacon and a teaspoon or so of chopped green onion. Repeat for remaining servings.

Sara Evans Restless Pop Music CD Review
The exceptionally talented Pop artist Sara Evans has released her CD entitled Restless. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe Sara Evans fans, and Pop fans alike will be pleased with this one. With the release of Restless Sara Evans’s artistic excellence is on full display as Evans has once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks that could very well be her best work to date.
This one literally grabs your attention right from the very first note with Rockin’ Horse and won’t let go until the very last note of the very last song Suds In The Bucket, which by the way is another great track.
Pop music fans will recognize some of the well known contributors on the project including Eric Darken and Steve Nathan plus a few other notables as well.
Overall Restless is an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up and is most definitely a worthy addition to any Pop collection. Truly an outstanding Pop CD. One of those that is completely void of any wasted time, as each track is simply superb.

10. Ricky Hatton TKO Paulie Malignaggi (what an asss kicking by Hatton!)
11. Miguel Cotto KO Alfonso Gomez (Cotto destroyed Gomez with some of the best body shots Ive seen in years)
12. Daisuke Naito UD Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (awesome fight, Wonjongham was once rank 10 p4p in Ring Magazine but lost it when Naito upsets him!)
13. Joe Calzaghe UD Roy Jones Jr. (I wanted RJJ to lose, I knew Calzaghe was the better fighter but I didnt know that Calzaghe would dominate him that bad and dance around him and mock him the entire fight)
14. Mikkel Kessler KO Dimitri Sartison (Kessler went on the last minute and finally put Sartison out of his misery)
15. Wladimir Klistchko TKO Hasim Rahman (total domination by the Ukrainian against the American)
