You must build up your collection of acoustic guitar music. Lessons, songs and study programs. You need them all. I even recommend backing tracks to play through. After teaching guitar for 20 years, I have learned that people who have good "libraries" become the better players. If you just search around the internet for free stuff, you are only going to get so far. Sure there are plenty of free things on the internet, but if you want to step it up and rise above the other players, you will need to become a little more serious.
Invest in some good books. You will have them for your whole life. You don't have to finish every book right away. Learn something, practice it then learn something else. Don't just throw out your guitar magazines. (Well recycle them) Keep them or at least take out the sheet music and lessons. The sheet music you find in the magazines is better than the ones you get from the free tab sites. Yeah these sites have some good stuff, but they also have some really really bad stuff.
Check out local bookstores, they have good acoustic guitar music. You don't want to skip something just because you have to pay for it. Visit the Berklee Online Bookstore. If you live close enough, just go there. It's awesome. They have a ton of stuff.
Invest in a good acoustic guitar music program. Something that goes over strum patterns, chords, scales and playing with other people. Don't just grab anything; get something that's really been proven to be good. The Hal Leonard Signature Licks stuff is fantastic. I use it all the time in my teaching. Jamorama is an unbelievable program. There is so much material for a teacher/student. Acoustic Guitar Magazine and FlatPicking Guitar magazine are both great resources too. I personally prefer Flatpicking Guitar Magazine because it's got more obscure players.
But whatever acoustic guitar music you are into, there are resources for you, but you got to take a little action and find it out. Spend a few bucks and load up your library with stuff to practice. Your acoustic guitar music is too important to skip this.

Where can I learn acoustic guitar for free online?
I'm 14 with a lot of time on my hands, seeing as the holidays are coming up. I have absolutely no idea how to play or even tune an acoustic guitar. My brother used to play and he's got a couple of beginner sheets I don't understand. Plus I have an acoustic guitar that needs tuning. Does anyone know a website that can help me tune and play the guitar??

Why Do Even Easy Guitar Tabs Look so Complicated?
Many beginning guitarists, when they are faced with their first guitar tab, do not actually know what to make of it. A confusing combination of lines and numbers seems like a highly complex code to which they do not have the key. In reality, tabs are rather simple to read once you know the basics. Easy guitar tabs make it possible for guitarists to share their music with other guitarists. By reading tabs, almost anyone can learn how to replicate the songs of their favorite music artists. If you want to learn how to read tabs, then the following information may be just exactly what you need.
Easy acoustic guitar tabs and electric guitar tabs often seem complicated to the beginning guitarist but they are actually set up in a very practical and logical manner. Composed of a staff of six horizontal lines, guitar tabs show you exactly which notes to play and how to form those notes. Each line of the staff represents one string on the guitar. The bottom line represents the lowest E string and the top line represents the higher E string. Then the lines in between represent the strings A, D, G, and B in ascending order.
The second element of easy guitar tabs is the numbers which are used to show guitarists which notes to play. Numbers printed on the lines of the staff indicate which fret should be used. The number indicates the fret itself and the line on which it is printed shows which string on which to use the fret. A "0" printed on any line indicates that an open string should be played and if several numbers are printed in a column then all notes should be played at once to form a chord.
Now that you know the basics of easy guitar tabs you may wonder why they seemed to be so complicated. Tabs make it possible for even beginner guitarists to begin to play almost any guitar song. Unfortunately, guitar tabs do not have a universal form of indicating rhythm so in order to learn how long to hold each note you may need to listen to a recording of the song first. After a few tries you will get the hang of it and in no time you will be able to play any easy acoustic guitar tab or electric guitar tab that you come across very easily.

Spanish Guitar Songs, Chords and Scales
When you take up the acoustic guitar you want to play songs, right? Maybe to sing some songs around the campfire. Lots of pop songs and folk songs sound good accompanied by the acoustic guitar but a sudden wish to play Spanish guitar songs often takes hold of you. If you can play Spanish guitar songs or Spanish sounding instrumentals it is a mark of your progress as a guitar player. This is a wish that many guitarists have but not too many know how to go about finding suitable Spanish flavored music to play.
In order to be some help to these guitarists who wish to have a serious guitar piece to play, I will throw in some suggestions. I know that many of the songs we identify as Spanish guitar pieces are fairly advanced technically but I am not going to leave any out of my list on the basis of technical difficulty. Any guitar piece you hear is probably available on tab and it is up to you to decide once you attempt to play the tab whether you are trying to play something that is too hard for you.
So when we think Spanish music what artists do we think of? There is The Gypsy Kings, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Paco De Lucia. How about Jose Feliciano. He played Spanish guitar style arrangements of a couple of Beatles songs.
Or there is Spanish Caravan by The Doors. This was actually a mixture of a Flamenco guitar style called Granadinas and a classical guitar piece called Asturias by Isaac Albeniz. The guitar playing sounded impressive on the record but it is not a great technical challenge. You can get the general flavor of the intro to Spanish Caravan by playing the B, C and D bar chords at the second, third and fifth frets. They are all the same chord shape which is based on the A major chord shape in the first position. Here is the B bar chord in tab:

Now to get the Flamenco flavor into these chords, take the bar off and put your first finger back on the fifth string and let the first string ring open in all three positions.
So now your B chord is:

E-----------------------|
You can also try the same technique by removing the bar from the F major shape, and moving it up the fretboard to see how it sounds.
Some popular Spanish songs you could Google are: Compostelana, La Tarara, Volver, Bomboleiro, Bomoleira, Adelita and La Morena de mi Copla. These are all well-known songs that chords, lyrics and tabs should not be too hard to find on the web.

If you enjoy the idea of learning the guitar and you visualize yourself sitting down and playing your favorite songs for your own enjoyment, acoustic guitar tabs give you the possibility of realizing your dream. You can pick up an acoustic guitar any time of the day or night and play without disturbing your family or neighbors. Some people even play the acoustic guitar while the family is watching TV in the same room!
Tablature, or tab, is the ideal way for any beginner guitar player to learn or for a more seasoned guitarist to learn new material quickly. A basic definition of guitar tab is a diagram showing the guitar strings with the frets where the guitarist is to play the notes indicated by numbers. Quite often a guitarist approaching a new piece of music will struggle with conventional music notation whereas tab is a quick and easy way of getting the feel of a new piece. Also a pianist or other musician can look at a piece of guitar sheet music and play it right away but would have no hope of playing from guitar tab because it is only written for one instrument. Another limitation of guitar tab is that you won't be able to learn the rhythm from it. You will need a strumming pattern diagram or, having heard the song before, have some idea of how to approach the playing of the rhythm. If you are prepared to live with these limitations tablature will be a great tool for you to learn your favorite songs quickly.
When you search the internet for acoustic guitar tab what kind of music can you expect to find? Well, the variety is astonishing. Basically acoustic guitar tab is written with the idea of the guitar supplying the basic accompaniment for the song. So if you are a singer wanting to interpret the lyrics, your interest in the guitar arrangement may be slight. The second thing acoustic guitar tab usually gives you is the notes for any distinctive melody or riff in the song - music that people recognize before they hear the words being sung. A simple example of this is the few notes repeated throughout the record of "Something" by The Beatles. Of course you are quite free to leave out or change any music to make the arrangement your own.
Acoustic guitar tabs are often fingerstyle arrangements of songs. These arrangements will not be readily available in music stores or the usual sources of sheet music on the internet. Fingerstyle arrangements can give you some added depth to your guitar playing even if you don't utilize all the techniques shown in the tab. Finally there is one advantage to using acoustic tab for electric guitar players. You can learn the muisc for the song without having to set up your guitar and amp. You can work on arranging your song for electric guitar once you know the chords and the basic structure.
I hope I have given you something to think about if you have not given tabs for acoustic guitar much of a look so far. If you look around you will be quite amazed at the range of popular - and obscure - music available.
