Many of us who have taught from the violin scale book by Carl Flesch have wished for a "Cliff Notes" version -- one that includes the familiar fingerings but without all the extra material, such as octaves, tenths, and parallel thirds. Of course, these have their place. But most students could benefit from a more simple (and portable) version.
Most violin scale books other than Flesch are lacking in several areas. First, they do not use the Flesch fingerings, which are widely considered to be standard in America as well as abroad. Most also lack arpeggios. Finally, they are often hard to read and/or densely spaced on the page. For these reasons, many (if not most) advanced students continue to study from the Flesch book, even though they may never use the majority of its pages.
I have also wished that a "progressive" book would come available -- one that included scales in one and two octaves rather than just three octaves. Even better would be a book including arpeggios with fingerings that are consistent not only within octaves, but between them as well.
Simply Violin: Violin Scales and Arpeggios in One, Two, and Octaves (based on Flesch) solves many of these problems. This book employs consistent fingerings. Plus, the notes are well spaced and there is ample room for the teacher to change fingerings if desired.
The two octave scales in this book are particularly nice for students who are auditioning for an intermediate youth orchestra. Further, all of them use the same fingering pattern, which allows the student to memorize them easily.
In this new book, I believe that I have found a viable alternative to Flesch that I can recommend in my shop to violin teachers who are looking for a more user-friendly version of Flesch. And, the book contains scales in one and two octaves, allowing for students of any level to begin scales and progress to Flesch fingerings in a logical and progressive way.

why are there 3 different songbooks for muse: resistance?
there are three different songbooks that contain the guitar tabs: the guitar tab book, the authentic guitar tab book, and piano, vocal, and guitar book. all three books are "authentic" but the guitar book is about $17, the "authentic" guitar book is about $40, and the part that confuses me is that the piano,vocal,and guitar book is only $22. why would the book that has the piano, vocal, and guitar be cheaper than the "authentic guitar" book. also, is the "guitar book" somehow not authentic even though the cover looks exactly like the "authentic guitar book." all three have the same exact cover and is all sold by amazon. i ordered the piano, vocal, and guitar version from amazon; hope i don't have to return it.

How To Test Your Thyroid At Home For Free And Avoid Costly Lab Bills
When it comes to weight loss our glands, especially our thyroid, plays a very important role. If someone is complaining of being tired and listless, the first test done is usually one to see if the thyroid is working the way it should.
Years ago, Dr. Broda Barnes discovered a very simple and accurate method of testing the thyroid. Using his method, you can take your temperature and get a good idea of your basal metabolic rate and thyroid condition without putting out the big bucks for a laboratory test.
Put an oral thermometer by your beside.
Now taking your temperature is easy but must be done in a certain way.
What is interesting here, men can take their temp any time. For women who are in their menstrual years, the best reading will be on the 2nd or 3rd day after the menstrual flow starts. Now comes the fun part.
Anywhere between 97.2 and 98.2 is considered normal. If your temp falls below this range, it indicates a sluggish thyroid or hypothyroid condition. If above, your thyroid is overactive.
So what happens if your thyroid is low? Natural thyroid support is easy and should be considered before relying on synthetic drugs that often have side-effects.
There are good glandular forms of products out there and a knowledgeable health store assistant can give you some options. It is recommended that the starting dosage be 2 to 3 tablets a day. The chewable kind is the best and it should be done on an empty stomach. After about 2 months, most people can gradually reduce the dose to 1 tab a day but everyone is different. 1 tab a day is a good maintenance dose.
But the thyroid not only needs glandular support it also relies on iodine to make hormones. Our food is sadly lacking of iodine since it is so nutrient poor because of present farming practices. To make matters worse, chlorine and fluoride interfere with the utilization of iodine and make deficiencies more prevalent.
It is easy to see if you need iodine. First, it's a good idea to test yourself using liquid iodine. Just paint a round patch on your stomach and watch to see how long your body takes to absorb it. If it is gone in a few hours, then you need to supplement.
To do that, just use liquid iodine, not the stuff you buy from the drugstore, that's poison, but the one that is food grade. Take 2 drops a day for a week or 2 and then reduce the amount to one drop a day.
Here is what a well functioning thyroid will make you feel like:
• lifting of brain fog
• much newfound energy
• improvement in the skin
• regrowth of hair on the outside end of the eyebrows
• less confusion, memory loss and depression
• better circulation to hands and feet
• loss of excess weight
• less constipation
• feelings of calmness
• better sleep
• less food cravings
So you see, there are a lot of benefits associated with keeping your thyroid in good working order and checking to see if it's working right is easy as pie.

is this considered natural talent?
i learned jimi hendrix's little wing on my electric guitar note for note from the hal leonard tab books and by ear too. i wanted to sing to it and people told me dont try because its impossible. but its been a week after i decided to start singing to it and i can do it perfectly. is this regular or is it natural talent, btw im 15 and ive been playing guitar for 6 months
There's no such thing as natural talent. Everyone works for it. I doubt you could ever hand a guitar to someone who's never played before and catch them playing Little Wing. It's all about practice, not magical talent.

Where do I find good pentatonic blues licks and runs tab for free?
Dont have a lot of money right now, I am laid off and going through a divorce so looking for some free tab of rock/blues blues type licks or runs. Anyone know where to find this other than the normal "tab sites", Ive tapped all those and they dont have to much to offer.
I always found it best to take a song or solo I like and look at the tabs for it. And you can find most of em' on the internet. Other than that search "blues licks" in youtube and you'll find a million & just figure out what you like ... or search "blues help" or "blues lessons" and the like ... different licks will show up, tabbed and played

World Cup Wisdom - Making the Goals You Aim At
Many entrepreneurs have the freedom to work from home in front of the TV like me. I'm not a ESPN fanatic by any means, but I do have an intense, addictive affair with the World Cup every four years.
And even in the midst of a lovely obsession, I found a lesson to be learned. I was watching the game with my World Cup buddy, Eddie, and he said something that got me thinking..."Getting a goal is so hard!" Yes, it is hard, but certainly possible.
And in business, "getting to that new deal" or "making that sale" is hard. But look at all the people who have achieved it. How? Well, they knew it was possible, how it could be possible, and acted consistently in those steps that make it all happen.
Let me share with you a story from 2001. I'll never forget that year because it was my first year in college, and other crazy things going on in my home city of NY (and I'll save you from the math, I'm 26). It was my only semester at a college 3 hours from Chicago (Knox College), and there was a sold-out Dashboard Confessional concert coming up. I want to say there was 6 of us that packed up like clowns in an old-school VW bug, because I promised each one of them that they would have a ticket by the time Dashboard Confessional began to play. I've done it before, and have many times since: walking up and down the line to get in asking if anyone has an extra ticket (never buying from scalpers, thankyouverymuch.) Although, this was a challenge that scared me... I can get and have always gotten 1-2 tickets for a show... but 6?? And this is when Dashboard was getting big!
One and a half hour in, we had a couple of people stationed in the parking lot asking people as they arrive, the rest of us on the sidewalk. We had 4 tickets and the opening bands taunted us with their muffled music from inside the venue's walls. Hopes were lost, mine, definitely challenged. People were barely arriving anymore. But I knew with my whole heart, and have experienced before: "When you want something, the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." ~Paulo Coelho
So I persisted knowing that it HAS TO happen! Someone was walking back to their car, and they had an extra ticket, and by the time Rival Schools (the band before Dashboard) began playing, we were all in... amazed and pumped (I was floored!!!). I'll never forget that show. I did it - I wanted more than anything to show my friends that you can achieve what you want and life is truly a realm of infinite possibilities.
Back in January, Brian, who I hadn't really spoken to for 6 years mentioned it in a message... "I still have fond memories of going to the Dashboard concert with you with like 9 people and no tickets. That was awesome."
So soccer... there's a determination during some games (sometimes during one half) when the team as a whole begins to believe that this is going to happen. You've seen it. There's a synergy, and almost telepathic communication between all the players. Perfect passes are seemingly effortless - it's as if the team has a single mind that they all think from. It's the sheer determination and focus that stems from their passionate desire that makes it happen.
In the end, what makes the challenge a pleasure, and what makes hard things worth doing is both the process and the win. If you think about it, the things truly worth achieving never are easy, and the game played to get there is (should be!) fun. And yes, fun enough to retell the story 9 years later.
