Drum Building 101 – How To Wrap A Drum Shell
First you will need to cut your wrap to size. An easy way to do this is to wrap it around your drum shell and mark the edge of the shell all the way around. Some wrap manufacturers don’t make wrap to go all the way around large drums, so you’ll end up having to use 2 pieces for larger drums – mark your cut line around the top of the shell. You may use a sharp pair of scissors to cut the wrap. Sparkles are a little easier to cut than glass glitter wraps. Plan on sharpening your scissors frequently if you need to cut a lot of wrap.
After you cut your wrap to the length of your shell, you’ll need to cut it down to the diameter of your shell. An easy way to do this is to use a flexible measuring tape (for sewing) to measure all the way around the shell and add an extra inch for overlap.
Now lay the wrap down flat and measure out that distance and use a straight edge to mark your next cut. Now lay your wrap down flat on the ground and mark the center of the wrap on a piece of tape. Now you need to do a test fit with your wrap. The age old question has always been “Where should the seam go?” Most drum companies do this: Toms; under a lug, kick; on the bottom where it can’t be seen, Snare; under the strainer to hide it. You will want no less than 1” of overlap for your seam. To make sure you line up your seam when gluing you’ll need to get your test fit wrapped around the drum as tight as possible, with your seam lined up in your designated area, and then transfer the center mark on your wrap to the edge of the shell. Also mark each end of your wrap where the overlap is on the shell.
To achieve maximum adhesion you’ll need to scuff/rough up the shell and the back side of the wrap. The best way to do this is to use 80 grit sand paper and sand the entire surface of the drum and the back of the wrap (don’t sand through your wrap). You’ll also need to peel back the protective plastic on the front of the wrap where your seam will be, measure your 1 inch seam and tape off the area you don’t want to scuff up or get glue on, and sand this down as well.
You can even lightly score the seam with a razor blade.
Lay your shell on a flat surface with your center mark facing you, then grab your wrap also with your center mark facing you, and ever so slightly scoot your wrap closer to the shell until you finally connect in the center, lining up the marks. This step is critical because once your wrap and shell touch, there is no going back.
Scoot your wrap across the table to line up the marks you made on the shell and the wrap.
Apply pressure from the center‐out, slowly wrapping the wrap around the shell. Make sure that you wrap the correct edge of your seam down first; you want to cover up the sanded part of the wrap with the clean part. Before you adhere the seam together, remove the piece of tape that masked the seam area or else you chance getting some tape stuck inside your seam! Now you need to apply some pressure all around the drum to get out any bubbles that might have formed! You can use a j‐roller going from the center‐out.
Also take special care at rolling the seam to make sure it is good and tight.
Sometimes when you apply a wrap you’ll end up spiraling the wrap which looks like this ... You can use scissors to cut this flush with the edge of the shell, or what I’ve found to be the best at trimming down the wrap is a tool made by Skil called the Auto Sharp Power Cutter.

Craft Videos. Learn A Craft Fast
Craft videos are the very best way to learn any craft skill. Hands down. I've tried teaching people by giving them just instructions (when I'm not there) and it only does part of the job. For the best solution you need a moving image and hard text.
Most of us learn by seeing. That is grasping what we both read, and what we watch. Pop a craft video or DVD into the PC and you've a sure fire recipe for success.
It's a winner for everyone.
For the person who created the video, because it catches them hopefully at their very best.
Video for them means being able to reach so many more that those in a standard classroom. And it means they can reproduce themselves as often as they like.
Camcorders these days are easy to operate and as long as the project is recorded in close up you will be able to see each and every step of what you need to do.
As a publisher I love videos for their learning power. If I have done my job right in explaining things, and getting the steps, and instructions right then it is a no-brainer. The video wins over written instructions every time.
How many times have you been thwarted by something that did not pan out on the page. Things missed out. Garbled instructions. Dead ends?
Well there is no such hiding place for the crafter demonstrating. Chances are they have made the project hundreds of time and hopefully using everyday language. There is something about writing instructions that turns our normal speech into something that hard to fathom.
Explaining things to a flashing camcorder forces you to be honest and clear. Any stuff ups are there for ever. And trust me, they will come back and remind you.
So for my part, every craft video is re-run, replayed, re-shot, saved and rendered to my level of perfection. I would hate it if one of my craft videos went out with me feeling it did a less than proper job.
I want everyone watching to feel not only that I can do the project (what is the point in that)? As a craft teacher I want you to be feel that YOU can. My expertise is only important in as much as being able to explain and share it with YOU.

What Microphones Should You Use for Home Recording Guitar
A microphone is a device made to capture waves in air, water or hard material and translate them to an electrical signal. The most common method is via a thin membrane producing some proportional electrical signal.
Most microphones in use today for audio use electromagnetic generation (dynamic microphones), capacitance change (condenser microphones) or piezoelectric generation to produce the signal from mechanical vibration.
What are the differences between the types of microphones available? Well, that’s what we’ll be looking at in this article.
There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to the sound you get from your microphone, not only in terms of price and quality, but also where you actually place the mic in relation to your amplifier.
Whilst the chances of getting a great recording are consistently better with a high quality microphone, price and quality do not always match. However, with that said, when it comes to high quality recording, the most important part of the entire process is the original sound source. If you’re original sound from the microphone is good to begin with it will generally have fewer problems at later stages when you are mixing.
Dynamic Microphones -
Most people's first microphone is a dynamic one. They're simple, versatile and they generally sound quite good on everything from voices to guitar amps and brass instruments. Also, dynamic microphones are usually cheaper than condenser microphones (which we will look at next)
Dynamic mics are usually cardioid or hyper cardioid in their polar pattern, which means that they only pick up the sound that's coming at them from the direction in which they're pointing.
Dynamic microphones can be great for use at home as they tend to reject a lot of background sounds like the noise of traffic outside your house. Once you start using a quality microphone, you won't believe how noisy your home studio room can be. Dynamic microphones also have a high SPL, which stand for sound pressure level, this means they are perfect for pointing at loud amplifiers.
Condenser Microphones -
Condenser mics are generally more expensive than dynamic microphones; however they do share a lot of the same characteristics.
You’ll find that a lot of condenser microphones are used when recording vocals. Most artists record vocals through a large diaphragm condenser microphone because they are a little less harsh than a dynamic mic, can be smoother sounding and have a broader frequency range.
Condenser microphones may not be entirely suitable for use in an ordinary house as they could well receive sound from televisions, neighbours or sounds from the streets.
Some condenser mics have a cardioid polar response while others have an omni-directional pattern. This means that they pick up sound equally from all directions. What’s great about some condenser microphones is that they have switch-able polar patterns. This means they can be cardioid, hyper-cardioid or super cardioid like a dynamic microphone, but can also be figure 8, which means it’ll accept sound from the front and back, or omni, meaning it will accept sound from all round.
You can find some great condenser mics for $150 - $250, which will serve most home recording needs. There are absolutely tons on the market, even at the lower end of the price range.
Another factor to take into consideration is that condenser mics require power to operate. Some will take an internal battery but others need to be powered remotely from the mixing desk. This is done through a power source called Phantom Power.

I know this might sound weird but is there a program that can take vocal tones and convert them to guitar tabs
If you think I am crazy listen, Vocals are tones, and the Guitar puts out tones, though not equal maybe some computer software could match the tones and output them as Sheet Music or guitar tabs. Have you ever herd anyone make guitar noises vocally? Well that is what I am talking about.
Here man try this, it is something on the line of what you are looking for. I think it will head you in the right direction.

Tab Software
Tab Software

TAB, which is short for tablature, is a good way for many people to learn to play the guitar. When learning to play the flute, piano, saxophone, violin, and other types of music, a person uses written music. However, the guitar is different in that chord diagrams are used instead. Now, some people have the ability to read chord music quite well while other people struggle. Because of this, a different method of learning was devised whereby a person can learn guitar TAB.
Tablature is simply a way in which a series of notes are written so a person can learn a riff or run on the guitar. For many individuals, the option to learn guitar TAB is a blessing, helping them learn quickly and with much less frustration. However, you need to understand that while TAB has many benefits, a few drawbacks do exist.
First, when playing the guitar, you are playing not only notes but also rhythm. With TAB, transferring information specific to an intended rhythm is difficult, if not impossible to do. For instance, if you play a musical instrument using sheet music, part of the music shows the rhythm so you know how fast or slow a song should be played. However, when you learn guitar TAB, this rhythm information is not there. For this reason, most people will choose a song they already know the rhythm to so all they have to learn are the notes.
A major difference in how a person would learn guitar with TAB is that the lines on the sheet music have lines that represent the guitar strings. In addition, the music would have dots on the lines, which is the appropriate finger placement. With this, you simple look at the fingers and place yours on the guitar string to match. Again, for many people to learn guitar TAB is the only way they can grasp this particular instrument.
Another important thing to know about TAB is that as you read the TAB, the line on the bottom is the sixth or deepest pitched string on the guitar while the top line is the first or highest string. You will also find when you learn guitar TAB that the dots may or may not be accompanied by a number, which is a reference to the fret on that particular string you need finger. For this, you would make the decision as to the finger used.
Then, as you learn guitar TAB, understand that if a song has two or more notes needing to be played simultaneously, they would show up on the TAB with one directly above the other. Additionally, when looking at a tablature, anything that shows up as an "O" means an open string or no finger placement on that particular string.
For most people who learn guitar TAB the beginning is a bit awkward and confusing but with time, it will soon become extremely easy. Many people learning to play guitar prefer this method for a number of reasons. In addition to being visually easier to learn, hundreds of TAB songs are now available online, giving them a much greater selection of songs to learn without having to pay for expensive DVDs, CDs or instructional material.
