Interactive Beginning

These days, anyone can own a blog. Millions of writers, accomplished and aspiring, have created their own weblogs and claimed a some cyber-property in the huge universe that is the internet. Innovative blogging softwares have made this possible by creating an easy method for the technically challenged to create their very own blogs.

When they started out, blogs were mostly owned by people who used blogs to share their day to day happenings with the world. To this day, these types of personal, journal-like blogs do quite well traffic and feedback wise. They capture viewers' interests.

However, the blogs of today vary much more and our now being produced by novelists, photographers, tech-tutorialists, and really anyone who has any sort of information they want to share with others. Blogs have become a very common, interactive tool that people are quickly realizing will most likely revolutionize the entirety of world media.

Why a Blog?

· Blogs sometimes serve as a medium of communication between friends and family. They can post about daily happenings and keep people they know up to date about the news in one's social circle.

· Blogs are great for niches. Organizing articles into categories and forming blogs of them keeps the information neat and orderly for readers.

· Blogs also can be used commercially as a way for corporations or businesses to communicate with their customer base easily and inform them of upcoming products as well as company developments and news. Corporate blogs can also serve as a tool for mass communication to worldwide employees.

Hosted Services

If you don't have your own hosting, a good option would be to use other people's hosting. Some possibilities are Blogger, Live Journal, and Typepad.

These hosting services are made for individual bloggers, and are extremely user friendly. You don't have to worry about maintenance, and instead can just focus on posting content and the layout of your blog's widgets. Blogger is recommended as it is free; Typepad is still a good choice, yet it charges a small monthly fee.

Self-Hosted

If you have hosting services already, but you are interested in the next level of blogging software, you should try self-hosted services. Wordpress is by far the most popular, along with Movable Type and others. These companies provide great software to help you design and create a great blog, and all you need to start is hosting.

You've seen the different hosting services, and what we said about them. But the best thing you can do is literally look at blogging services and see what they offer. Find one that's right for you, and start Blogging!

Beginning GIMP Guide Opinion?

I am starting GIMP and am at a loss are where to start and how. I would like to take my raw pictures and touch them up. Can anyone suggest a free online guide to help me learn? If there is an interactive guide out there (free or not) I would be greatly interested in that as well.

Here are some places to find some good tutorial's`s on how to use gimp.

http://docs.gimp.org/en/

You can find a lot more if you do a Google search for gimp tutorial`s and gimp how to use guide`s.

I hope this can help you.

Digital Library

INTRODUCTION :

                              The  idea  of  easy   and   finger  tip access  to  information  began  with  the  introduction  of  VANNENAR  Bush’s Memex  machine  and  gradually  evolving  with  the  advancement  of  Information  Technology.  With  the  advent  of  computers  , the concept  centered  on  large  bibliographic  databases, the now familiar  online retrieval   and  public  access  systems  that  are  part  of  any  contemporary  library. When the computers are gradually  networked   forming  the  internet, the concept evolved  again and the research gradually turned to creating libraries in digital format  and  terms  like  “ virtual  library “, “electronic  library ”, “library  without  walls”  and  the  most  recent  term  ‘digital  library’  have  come. The  rapid  advancements  in  information  processing, storage, and  communication  technologies  have  revolutionized  the  role  of  world  wide  libraries  in  the  disseminating  information  services  to  the  users. The  data   are  now  being  provided  in  the  digital  format  by  the  librarians.

                       According  to  Fox  Digital  library  is  defined  as  “ New  way  of  carrying  out  the  functions  of  libraries of libraries  encompassing  new  types  of  information   resources  new  approaches  to  classification  and  cataloguing,   intensive  use  of  electronic  systems  and  networks  and  dramatic  shifts  in  intellectual, organizational  and  electronic  practices.”

                       Some  of  the  common  elements  by  which  a  digital  library  can  be  identified  as  the  most  essentiality  of  today’s  world  as  illustrated  by  ARL   are  :

I)  The  digital  Library  is  not  a   single  entity;

ii)  The  digital  library  by  requires  technology  to  link  resources  of  many ;

iii)  these  links  are  transparent  to  end  users   from  an  information  retrieval  point  of  view  , it  is  a  large  database ;

iv) for  library   science  it  is  a bold  step  in  the  continuing    automation  of  libraries  that  began  25  years  ago;

v) Universal  access  to  the  digital  libraries  and  information  services  in  the  goals;

vi) For  those  working  in  wide- area  information  delivery , it  is  an  application  of   the   web ;

IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS  OF  A  DIGITAL  LIBRARY  :

The  digital  library  require  digital  technologies  and  is  the  combination  of  traditional  and  media  collection .The  characteristics  have  been  gleaned  from  various  discussions   about  digital  libraries  both  online  and  in  print  :

i)  Digital  libraries  are  the  digital  face  of  the  traditional  libraries  that  includes  both  digital collections  and  traditional  ,  fixed   media  collections.  So  both  electronic  and  paper  materials  get  their  importance.

ii) Digital  libraries  will include  digital  materials  that  exist  outside  the  physical  and  administrative   bounds  of  any  one  digital  library

iii) Digital  library  supports  both  formal  and  informal  learning  procedures

iv) Digital    libraries  will  require  both  the  skill  of  librarians  and  well  as  those  of  computer  scientists  to  be  viable

v) Digital  libraries  ideally  provide  a  coherent  view  of  all  the  information  contained  within  a library  , no  matter  its  form  or  format

vi) Digital  libraries  will  serve  particular  communities  or  constituencies, as traditional  libraries  do  now, though  those   communities  may  be  widely  distributed  throughout  the  network.

These  characteristics  are  most  logical  because  it  expands  and  extends  the  traditional  library, preserves  the  valuable  work  that  they  do  , while  integrating  new  technologies , new  processes  and  new  media.

LIBRARIANS  IN  A  DIGITAL  LIBRARY  :

Dr. S.R. Ranganathan    has  stated  that  Librarianship  is  a  noble  profession in  which  he  derives  the  joy  by  seeing  the  dawn  of  joy  in  the  face  of  the  readers, helped  by  him  to  find  the  right  book  at  the right  time. Now - a –days   librarians   equipped  themselves  with the skill  of handling  the  new  technologies. Electronic media like Floppy disk, DVD, CD-ROM   are  replacing  the   books  and  Journals . Thus  the  information  literacy  is  a  must  for  the  librarians   and   so  the   library  professionals  are  now  a  days  more  regarded  as  an  Information  Personnel.

The  librarian  must  look  that  these  factors   must  be  present  in  case  of  a  digital  library:

Collection  of  services  : A  digital  library  is  more  than  just  the  collection  of  material  in  its  repositories.  It  provides  a  variety  of  services  to  all  of  its  users(  both  humans  and  machines  , and  producers, managers  and  consumers  of  information).  There  are  a large  and  varied  set  of  services  like  support  management  of  collections, services  to  provide  replicated  and  reliable  storage , services to aid in query formulation and execution  etc.

The  collection  of  information  objects  :  the  basis  for  a  digital  library however , must  be the formation objects  that  provide  the  content.   The  information  objects   are  found  in  collections  with  associated  management  and  support  functions. The  types  of  information  objects  vary  from  traditional  ‘documents’  through  to  live  objects  or  dynamic  query  results.

Supporting  users  deal  with  information  objects: The  librarians  must  assist  the  users  by  satisfying  their  needs  and  requirements  for  management, access  ,  storage  and  manipulation  of  the  variety  of  information  stored  in  the  collection  of  material  that  represents  the  ‘holdings ‘ of  the  library.

The  organization  and  presentation  of  those  objects  :A  library  is  created  to  serve  a  community  of  users. Users  who  participate  in  the  digital  library  should  be  aware  of  its  design  and   be  able  collectively  refine  the  design  to  better  serve   their  own  information  needs. Thus  the  usability  of  a  digital  library  depends  on  the  clear    and  unobtrusive   exposure  of  the  library’s  design, its near  term  goals  and  its  overall objectives.

Available  directly  or  indirectly:  The  information  objects  may  be  digital  objects  or  they  may  be  in  other  media(like  paper) but  represented  in the  library  via  digital  means (  eg. Metadata) . They  may  be  available  directly  over  the  network  (eg. Using  a  query  service  of  the  library  to  find  and  then  retrieve    electronically  the  information  object)  or  indirectly  (eg.  The  result  of  the  query  may  give  instructions  on  how  to  obtain  the  object  but  that  is  done  outside  the  scope  of  the  library  itself)

Electronic  / digital  availability:  Although  the  objects  may  not  be  even  electronic, and although  the  objects  themselves may not be available directly  over  the  network, the objects  must  be  represented  electronically  in  some  manner  through  eg. Metadata  or  catalogues. Otherwise  that  should not be considered  a  part  of  the  digital  library

CONCLUSION:

To  organize  a digital library  with  all  the  characteristics  mentioned  above  the  library  must  have  the   professionals  who  have  a  flair  of  moving  out  of  the  traditional  systems  and  cope  up  with  the  modern  advanced  technology. Keeping  in  mind  the  new  challenges  the  information  professionals  can  undergo  short  term  courses,  refresher  courses,  seminars  and  workshops   which  would  help  them  to  acquire  new  skills  as  networking,  web  based  technologies, searching  of  Electronic  database  CD- ROM,  e-journals. As  with  most  other  technical  developments  in  libraries  over  the  years, we  will  have  to  move  forward  in  small manageable  , evolutionary  steps  rather  than  in  rapid  revolutionary  manner.

How can i transfer my entire itunes library to another computer over LAN?

I have a tablet and an itunes library with about 12 gigs of music and video (both shows and movies). this is to big and would take far too long to transfer using USB or with a CD-rom. i think that doing something over LAN would be the most eficient and easiest, but i have no idea what to do! please help.

and i wanna be able to transfer ALL of my library.

If your computer is connected to other computers over a local network, you can share items in your library and playlists with up to five of those computers (in the same subnet).

To share your library with other computers:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Sharing, and select "Share my library on my local network."

Select the items you want to share.

To require users to enter a password before they can see your shared items, select "Require password" and enter a password.
For others to see your shared items, your computer must be on and iTunes must be open.

If you choose to share your entire library, its name appears in the iTunes Source pane (below Shared) on other local computers (in the same subnet) set up to look for shared libraries. To change the name others see, choose Edit > Preferences, click General, and type another name in the Shared Name field.

You can share movies; MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, and AAC files; and radio station links; you can't share programs purchased from Audible.com or QuickTime sound files.

Sharing is intended for personal use only.

Jimmy Buffett And His 'under The Big Top' Tour

Jimmy Buffett's Under The Big Top Tour begins Feb. 20 in Jacksonville, Florida and is scheduled to end Sept. 4 in Bristow Virgina.

This is Buffett's umpteenth tour of North America and it's supporting his latest release, "Buffet Hotel." That's not a misspelling. "Buffet Hotel" is the name of a hotel in the landlocked nation of Mali. Buffett discovered the hotel on a recent trip to West Africa.

Highlights of the 'Under The Big Top' tour include a pair of Jimmy Buffett concerts in Mansfield, Massachusetts, two Buffett concerts at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey, and a Jimmy Buffet show at the Nikon At Jones Beach Theatre in Wantagh, New York.

For those who have never had tickets to a Jimmy Buffet concert there are a few things you need to know before you attend. For those who have attended a Buffet concert here are all the things you "can't remember."

First, and foremost, Buffett fans are called "Parrotheads." Young fans, or Parrothead offspring, are called "Parakeets." The term originated in 1985 at a Jimmy Buffett concert in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was actually coined by Timothy B. Schmit, than a member of the Coral Reefer Band and now a member of the Eagles.

Buffett is lot like the Grateful Dead and Phish in that he's a touring act. It's better to see him live than listen to his albums on an iPod. However, Buffett is 63-years-old and sings about drinking, partying, and drinking. In order to keep himself above ground, Buffett has adopted a performance schedule that only includes Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

There are exceptions to this rule. In May, Buffett has a Saturday night concert in Noblesville, Indiana at the Verizon Wireless Music Center. Then he performs Monday at the Riverbed Music Center in Cincinnati.

Nonetheless, if you want to see Buffett in concert keep your Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights open (as well as your Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday mornings).

The "Big 9" is a term used to describe the nine songs Buffett usually plays at his shows. Now this doesn't mean that when Buffett performs in Columbia, South Carolina for example he'll play all nine of these songs, but chances are very good (at least historically) that you'll hear the following...

1. "Margaritaville"

2. "Come Monday"

3. "Fins"

4. "Volcano"

5. "A Pirate Looks At Forty"

6. "Cheeseburger in Paradise"

7. "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes"

8. "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere"

9. "One Particular Harbour"

Keep in mind that neither Buffett nor the Coral Refer Band uses the term "Big 9." The term is completely the construct of Parrotheads.

Other things to be prepared for at a Jimmy Buffett concert: he will often start the show with a cover song; sometimes he plays a song that has a local tie-in (for instance he played "Sweet Caroline" at a show at Boston's Fenway Park); the second set usually begins with slower songs; and the band is usually introduced sometimes in the first encore.

How many reps and sets should you do when weight training while dieting?

I currently weigh 325lbs and am trying to lose weight but gain strength. I lift weights 3 times a week, Mon-Wed-Fri, and burn around 600 calories doing cardio on Tues-Thursday. I normally do 3 sets of 15 on each exercise. Would it be better to do more weight and less reps, or continue like I'm doing? I want to also lose weight, does that make a difference? I am on a reduced calorie diet of about 1500-1800 calories/day. What would you recommend I do to accomplish my goals?

First of all, you need to stop the reduced calorie diet. You need to eat as much protein and healthy calories as possible. Your diet while strength training should be around 3000 give or take 400 depending on your weight. Dieting by taking in less food is the worst way to lose weight imho.
The reps you are doing sound fine but maybe you should try to increase weights and keep the same reps and sets. In fact increasing sets can only help in this situation.
Here is what to do specifically,
Start by eating right, dieting has a low threshold of weight loss, losing calories can slow down your metabolism, which in turn leads to storing fats.
Second, when you go to the gym, run for 15-20 minutes to get your heart to it's optimal rate.
Then, start weight training. Every excercise is good, but make sure you mix it up a bit, eg. every month change benchpress to incline or decline, change curls to chinups ect. And also, every moment you have downtime, (like after a set) do a set of pushups, (if you are on chest excercises), lunges (for legs), low weight curls, when doing biceps.
Also keep hydrated, and learn to be constantly moving. Do not eat anything two hours before bed. Eat as soon as you wake up, and try to drink cold water (cold foods are great for weight loss).
Also try to spread 2 or 3 big meals into 8-9 smaller meals. (Make three turkey sandwiches in the morning and cut them into squares. Each half hour-45 minutes eat one square(two bites size) and have a slice of apple, with a shot of cold water.
I know this seems like much, but simply go buy a bunch of tupperware containers, or one that has many compartments.
The most important thing though, when excercising, is to eat MORE than your daily caloric intake. Because calories = energy, and you can really hurt your body by dieting.

You know your internet marketing business is growing when you feel the need to learn more. Suddenly, older perceptions, practices and techniques that worked like a charm in the past no longer suffice. You might also have felt lately that you have hit a plateau, when things no longer move as fast as they should. Or maybe, you feel that you need a change of direction or more guidance to help you bring your internet marketing business to the next level. If this is the case, then you are probably ready for an internet marketing mentoring program for online marketers.

What is an internet marketing mentoring program?

A mentoring program in internet marketing is either a formal or informal process of using a mentor-student/protégée relationship in order to train or instruct a person into improving his knowledge and skills in online marketing. This is similar to the mentoring programs being implemented in many industries and organizations.

Although it may seem like a practical first step, online marketers generally do not consider a mentorship program as mandatory to initiating an internet marketing business primarily because it can be a rather expensive choice. The best and most effective internet marketing mentoring programs are rather high-end and are conducted by some of the most experienced and respected names in the industry. This is why majority of internet marketers who take this path are composed of experienced business owners.

Advantages of an internet marketing mentoring program

Without a doubt, a mentor can be an excellent source of information and learning for an online marketer. A mentor is much more experienced, has the industry skills and network of contacts that can prove valuable later and provides an objective and unbiased view of the business. If you must learn what to do with your business next, this is the person to go to. Having an effective internet marketing mentoring program is also an excellent way to push the business forward and increase the likelihood of success in the industry.

How to choose an effective internet marketing mentoring program

These days, it's next to impossible not to find a mentor who will guide you on the intricacies of internet marketing. The only concern you truly have is who to pick and which program to follow. To help you decide on this concern, here are some considerations you should keep in mind:

The program itself

Before signing up for a mentoring program, make sure to check what it is all about. Ask what the program will cover and what type of services you can expect. How will the program be carried out and what are the types of communication means that the mentor will be using to convey lessons or advice to you? At the stage where you are at now, do the topics and services provided by the program seem appropriate, too elementary or too advanced? Is there a relevance between your business and the mentoring program you're considering?

The mentor

Find out who your mentor is and what his qualifications are. How long has he been working in the same capacity? What makes him the right mentor for you? Take a look at the types of mentoring programs in internet marketing he had been involved with in the past. Is his track record good enough for you? What does he bring to the table and can you benefit from it?

Another good indication that your mentor can offer you a good deal is that he is a respected personality in the industry and may have already published his own articles, write-ups and even books on the subject. What is his success record and what is the extent of his contacts in the industry? A lone wolf in internet marketing may not be a good sign and can indicate a lack of popularity. If he's unpopular, then it must be for a reason you should be aware of.

The match

Are you comfortable with the internet marketing mentoring program being offered to you? Does it offer you something you can truly learn from? Do you like the types of goods and services you will receive in exchange for a fee? Are the benefits commensurate to the price? Are you comfortable with the schedule? What type of accountability is involved and are you agreeable to it?

Ultimately, you - the online marketer - will decide whether or not the internet marketing mentoring program is right for you. Try to weigh the benefits to you and your business. Remember that a mentoring program has to be able to add to your experience and not take away from it.
